NSW:Whitlam gets stay on banning orders
Former NRMA president NICHOLAS WHITLAM will remain a company director for the timebeing, after a judge granted a stay on orders banning him from managing a company.
The orders came last week after Mr WHITLAM was found guilty of breaching the corporations law.
Justice IAN GZELL -- in the NSW Supreme Court -- has stayed orders against Mr WHITLAMbanning him from being a company director for five years and fining him $20,000 for breachinghis duties as a director.
He stayed the orders until September 23 to allow Mr WHITLAM time to make an applicationin the Court of Appeal for a continuation of the stay pending an appeal.
Justice GZELL last week imposed the penalties on Mr WHITLAM for breaching corporate laws.
The breaches related to his failure to sign for nearly 4,000 proxy votes against aresolution to increase directors fees at the NRMA's 1998 annual general meeting.
Last month Justice GZELL found Mr WHITLAM had acted dishonestly and deliberately omittedto sign the proxy poll paper.
Mr WHITLAM -- who resigned his NRMA presidency in July -- has said he'll appeal thejudge's findings.
