WA:WA bushfire near Bunbury contained

PERTH, Dec 4 AAP - WA Firefighters have succeeded in containing a bushfire threatening
properties near Bunbury in the state's southwest.

Residents of Gelorup in the Shire of Capel had been warned to abandon or be prepared
to actively defend their homes on Sunday morning (WST).

But early in the afternoon the message was downgraded to a bushfire advice notice.

WA's Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) cautioned in a statement that although
the fire was contained, it was not under control and residents needed to stay alert for
changing conditions.

Around 40 career and volunteer firefighters were at the scene.

Meanwhile, a fire that threatened residents of Molloy Island and East Augusta in the
state's south-west has been contained and is no longer expected to pose a threat.

Bushfire advice notices were issued on Sunday for a number of other fires across WA
that were not immediate threats to lives or property.

A total fire ban was in place on Sunday for Perth, the Perth hills and surrounding
shires, as well as Mandurah.
